Sat Feb 3 Beekman Library Literary Festival, Hopewell Jct. NY
Sat March 30 Poughkeepise Book Festival, Poughkeepsie, NY Dutchess Community College, Falcon Hall 10am - 3 pm
I really enjoy doing author visits and book festivals. I would love the opportunity to present a program for your preschool, or K-3 students. Using my books and published poems, I offer fun and
educational programs that excite children about reading and writing. Together we explore how writers play with language to create the best story possible.
Below you'll find information about my fees and a special discount opportunity when booking a school vist for the fall of 2025.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
My interactive presentations range from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the age and type of actitivies.
One popular program is a 'Meet the Author Pajama Party.' (It's especially fun when children come to school in pajamas! ) I read HOW WILL I EVER SLEEP IN THIS BED? and/or HUGGLE WUGGLE, BEDTIME SNUGGLE. I share an interactive Google Slide Show and discuss the writing process in afun, age appropriate way - from idea to rough draft to the process of revision. We end with an action rhyme and Q&A.
For grades 2 & 3, my presentation is called 'You're the Star of the Show!' I read STAR OF THE SHOW and present a Google Slide Show to discuss where to find story ideas, how to brainstorm and include the elements of story - character, setting, plot, etc. I also share specific revision techniques to spice up one's story.
Another popular program is 'Beep! Beep! It's Story Time.'
I read BEEP! BEEP! SPECIAL DELIVERY and, depending on the children's ages, we do songs and finger plays relating to trucks and transportation. We discuss the
process of writing a rhyming book - from idea to rough draft to the process of revision. We end with a guessing game and action rhyme. Please allow plenty of space for children to stand and
participate in poetry movement and action rhymes.

For the 2024-2025 school year, my fee ranges from $300 to $450 within 30 miles of Hyde Park, NY and depending on the number of presentations.

Here's what they're saying about my author programs...
- Karen Fowler, Library Media Specialist, Vail Farm Elementary School
- Pamela Woodward, Netherwood Elementary School
My friend and fellow writer, Karen Kaufman Orloff, and I have partnered together to offer writing classes for adults. We call our 5-week program, 'The ABC's of Writing for Children.'
We cover where authors get their ideas and how to turn these ideas into poems, short stories, picture books or longer works. We discuss how to structure your writing to include the elements of story
and how to submit your work to publishers. Occasionally we present shorter, introductory workshops at the local library. Contact me or Karen Orloff for more information. Visit Karen's website for a
look at her terrific books.
